Knowledge Base: Migration FAQ and Troubleshooting
This article should help answer some questions related to the migration to our new servers. If you are experiencing problems more than an hour after the migration, please contact us and we will help immediately.
What is the exact date and time when my account will be migrated?
Since the migration service will migrate accounts one by one, we don't know the exact time of the migration for each account. A warning email will be sent within three hours before the migration starts to account owners and admins. For accounts that have 750MB of storage or more, we will mostly likely schedule it on a weekend. If you are on a paid account with over 750MB of storage and must avoid the weekend migration, please let us know and we will try to move it to a different date.
How long should the migration last?
We are moving accounts over in batches to control problems if they arise. While most accounts only take a few minutes to migrate, larger accounts could take longer. The biggest dependency is storage size. So if your account has a gigabyte of data or more, it could take some time to move everything over. We tried on a pretty large account that took up to an hour to migrate.
The migration is complete, but I still can't access Subversion
During the migration we had to change DNS. When DNS is updated for our domain, it must also be updated on your local machine. For most people this should happen within 10 minutes after the migration since we set a very low TTL. However, in testing, we have notice some clients taking much longer due to Operating System cache. If this happens, there are a couple things you can do:
- Flush your DNS by reading this article
or restarting your computer.
- Update your "hosts" file with the new IP address. Please contact us to get the new IP for your account.
Subversion is fast, but the Beanstalk application seems slow
Until we migrate all accounts, access to our database will be significantly slower so we can maintain accounts at both web hosting providers. Once all accounts have been moved (within several days) it will be much faster.
